The Brabourne Stadium was built on a piece of sea reclaimed land. The foundation stone of the Brabourne Stadium was laid by Lord Brabourne, the Governor of Bombay, on May 22, 1936. The stadium is owned by the Cricket Club of India (CCI). The capacity 0f the stadium is about 20,000 audiunces. Brabourne Stadium hosted Test cricket matches from 1948 to the 1972. A dispute between the CricketClub of India(CCI) and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) over the allotment of tickets caused ceasing Brabourne Stadium to be a major venue for international matches since the early, 1970s. The MCA then built a cricket stadium of their own, the Wankhede Stadium, a few hundred metres to the north of Brabourne.
