Shivaji Park, Dadar

Shivaji Park is one of the largest parks situated at Dadar in Mumbai. This park has witnessed major social and politicle gatherings in pre and post independence era. The surounding area of the park is dominated byMarathi community.
The park was created in 1925 by the Bombay Municipal Corporation, now renamed as Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (B.M.C.). The surroundings of this park have many buildings dating back to the mid-1900s. The inner circumference of the park is 1.17 kilometers. It is crowded in the evening and it is overtaken by the loving couples after dark falls. Though there are numerous entrances to the park, the main entrance is the one on the east side of the ground for pedestrians only. The grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji who had fought many battles against the Mughal Empire, is on the west side of the park. Behind the statue on the opposite side of the road is the official residence of Mayor of Mumbai which is famous as Mayor's Bunglow.
