View-David Sasoon Library
The David Sassoon Library is the name of a famous library and heritage structure in Mumbai. Albert Sassoon conceived the idea of a library to be situated in the center of the city. The building was designed by architects J. Campbell and G. E. Gosling for the Scott Mc Clelland and Company at the cost of Rs. 1,25,000/-. David Sassoon, father of Albert Sassoon, donated Rs. 60,000/- and the remaining expenses were borne by the Government of Bombay Presidency.
The library is located on Rampart Row across the Kala Ghoda. The building was built in 1870 from yellow Malad stone. There is a white stone bust of David Sassoon above the entrance portico.
