General Post Office (GPO), Mumbai

View:-GPO Building in the middle

Just behind the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formarly Victoria terminus) is the General Post Office which completed in 1909. It is a prime example of the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. The dome is modelled after the Gol Gumbaz in Bijapur. The building was designed by John Begg. Inside the marble topped tables, the high vaulted ceilings, and the sweeping staircases are designed for an ostentatious show of the wealth and power of the last few decades of Imperial British rule in India.
