Nariman Point is one of the prime places of famous Indian business houses.The area was part of the sea prior to 1940. Khurshid Nariman, a Parsi corporator in Bombay Muncipal Corporation (renamed in 1995 as Brihanmumbai Muncipal Corporation) who was famous with the nick name "Veer Nariman" proposed to reclaim this sea area.The debris was dumped here to fill in the shallows. Hence, this place was named "Nariman Point" in the memory of Late Khurshid Nariman(Veer Nariman).The second phase of the reclaimation was carried out in 1970s during the period of late Mr. Vasantrao Naik, then Chief Minister of Maharastra. The second phase of reclaimation caused the sinking of Varsova area at Andheri, Mumbai. Nariman Point is the main financial area of Mumbai and it houses most of the financial services and brokerage companies
